Effy Kousteni (She/Her)

Designer, and Associate Drama Editor

Spring 2025 – present

Effy Kousteni is a fiction and nonfiction writer passionate about creating stories that explore the complexities of culture, society, and politics. Born and raised in Athens, she moved to London to study Creative Writing and English Literature at the University of Westminster, where she later pursued an MA in Professional Writing.

During her time at university, Effy contributed twice to The Wells Street Journal—first as part of the editing, design, and marketing team, and later as Managing Director. She also published two stories: Baptised in Neon, which uses neon as a metaphor to explore emotions, and For Adam, a piece that led her to research Islamic beliefs and the Palestinian genocide.

A central theme in Effy’s work is the exploration of identity in a fragmented world. Her writing blends a noir aesthetic with elements of postmodernism—such as irony, relativism, and paranoia—and often questions the reliability of language while interrogating power structures and dominant ideologies.

Her influences include the raw, honest styles of Charles Bukowski and William S. Burroughs, whose work inspires her own. A lover of music and romance, Rob Sheffield’s Love Is a Mixtape is a monthly re-read and a constant source of inspiration.

Having completed a screenwriting course at City Academy, Effy is currently working on her first screenplay. Her creative vision is shaped by Sarah Kane’s sharp dialogue, Erica Jong’s complex characters, and the cinematic, romantic style of director Richard Curtis.
