Death by Mango

Welcome to Spellbinder Summer 2025, issue 19! As we inch closer to our 20th issue, one we hope will be a big one, we present you with a fantastic range of works to peruse over the summer months if you’re in the northern hemisphere. These include a spatially experimental poem, verse from the perspective of a mosquito, fiction containing advice for those hunting vampires, some eye-catching ink works on the theme of ‘Earth, Wind, Fire and Water’, nonfiction discussing the significance of a watch, and a stage play entertainingly titled ‘Death by Mango’.

Moreover, we also hosted our second Spellbinder art competition this season, titled ‘Beauty in the Mundane.’ Advertised on Instagram, this flash competition invited visual artists to submit their work within a ten-day period. Two winners were selected and each of them had a choice of a paperback copy of the spring issue of Spellbinder or a free monthly subscription to our website. The winning works are also available to view on our website.

Last but not least, we want to inform you that we are very much looking forward to celebrating the 20th issue in style on October 1st and also marking half a decade of our publication. Inspired, as always, by our dedicated submitting writers and artists, the team here at Spellbinder is honoured to be able to provide a platform for such talented creatives. Wishing you all a wonderful season ahead!

Amber Kennedy, Editor in Chief
