Masthead – Yuyi He

Yuyi He (She/Her)

Nonfiction Editor

Spring 2025 – present

Yuyi He is a Chinese-Canadian writer in her final year of studying Philosophy and Psychology at the University of Edinburgh. As a writer, she believes in flowers, stained glass, butterflies, snow, everything Japanese, prayers, space, Buddhism and the Greek pantheon. As a reader, she has a real love for sincere, non-satirical writing that dares to speak even the emotional truths that stab like blades. She appreciates philosophical detours as long as they are well-integrated with plot and balanced with tactile imagery.

Before joining the Spellbinder team, her creative nonfiction piece was published in the magazine’s Summer 2024 issue. Besides also having a short story printed by The Word’s Faire Press, the real gems among her works are yet to be published. You can unearth them from her writing account on Instagram @yuyi_loves_beauty.

She is the founding editor-in-chief and fiction editor of Nighthawk Star, a literary magazine dedicated to promoting world philosophies. Aside from her writerly ambitions, she aspires to become a Jungian psychoanalyst in the future.
